Transplant Centres

Where transplants are actually performed, and who to contact in your state. We maintain this as a signpost — we have no role in registration, allocation or waiting lists.

Official authorities

Start here, not with us

Registration on a waiting list happens through a transplant centre and the state authority. These are the bodies that actually hold the register.

National

NOTTO

National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation. Maintains the national registry and the pledge register, and coordinates allocation across states.

Regional

ROTTO

Regional organisations coordinating between states in a zone, and supporting states without a fully established SOTTO.

How registration on a waiting list works

People often contact us assuming we can add them to a list, or move them up one. We cannot do either, and neither can any NGO. Here is what actually happens.

  1. Your treating doctor refers you to a registered transplant centre for assessment.
  2. The centre evaluates you — organ function, general fitness for surgery, infection screening, and your ability to manage lifelong immunosuppressant medication afterwards.
  3. The centre registers you with the state SOTTO. Registration is done by the hospital, not by you.
  4. You wait. Allocation is by blood group and tissue compatibility, medical urgency, and time on the list.
  5. The centre calls when an organ matches. This can come at any hour, and you need to be able to reach the hospital quickly.

What we can help with

Our role sits entirely outside the clinical and allocation process:

  • Explaining what the process involves, in plain language, before you are in the middle of it
  • Helping families understand brain-stem death certification when they are being asked to consent
  • Counselling support for donor and recipient families, before and after
  • Practical help with travel and accommodation logistics around a transplant
  • Pointing you to the right official contact when you do not know where to start

If anyone offers to arrange an organ for payment, it is a crime. Buying and selling organs is punishable under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, for the buyer as well as the seller. Please report it — and tell us, so we can help you report it safely.
